Edward Kelsey Moore will be in formation among the cellos for an epic battle of the bands this Saturday (and again on Monday evening) when the Chicago Sinfonietta crosses batons with Mucca Pazza, a punk marching band. The concert is entitled: Rethink. Redefine. Reimagine. Under the circumstances anything might happen! Tradition vs Innovation. Orchestra vs Marching Band. Maestro Mei-Ann Chen opens the Chicago Sinfonietta season in the trailblazing spirit of Florence Price (the first African-American woman composer to have a work premiered by a major symphonic orchestra) with Price's Dances in the Canebrakes. Next, Maestro Chen marches us through tradition with works by Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Things go in a totally different direction for the second half: positioning the orchestra with punk marching band Mucca Pazza in a raucous musical conversation -- mashing up classical and punk in pure Sinfonietta style! Then Maestro Chen brings the two sides together in a fever pitched, epic, battle of the bands finale with Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812 (specially rearranged). Capping off the experience? Beer-tastings in the lobby before the performance, during the intermission, and after the show designed to complement the music, courtesy of Two Brothers Brewing! As Maestro Chen says, "This is truly a concert where you should expect the unexpected! " Click here for more info & tickets! Comments are closed.
