On Saturday, May 30th, Edward Kelsey Moore will receive the 2014 "New Author Award" from the Go On Girl! Book Club during the club's annual Author Awards Weekend in Seattle, Washington. With over 30 chapters in 13 states, Go On Girl! Book Club is the largest reading organization in the U.S. for black women. Founded in 1991, members meet regularly in their respective cities to discuss the national book selection of the month (The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat was their January 2014 selection). Then each year, Go On Girl! hosts an Author Awards Weekend to honor established writers and provide writing awards and scholarships to new talent. To learn more about the Go On Girl! On Saturday, March 21st in Naperville, Illinois, and again on Monday, March 23rd at Symphony Center in Chicago, Edward Kelsey Moore and his cello will be performing with his orchestra colleagues the Chicago Sinfonietta in the concert: Primal Instincts.
Gluttony, lust, passion, grief—be ready to have your most primitive impulses triggered by the first notes of the orchestral suite from the tragic opera Carmen, by Georges Bizet. Things get even hotter with a new tango-jazz inspired work featuring incendiary Galician bagpiper Cristina Pato. (U.S. Premiere!) And to close, the orchestra will perform one of the most powerful musical works ever written, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, inspired by medieval texts about the fickleness of fate. Forceful orchestral playing, soloists, chorus and youth chorus, Primal Instincts has it all, and during Carmina Burana has it all -- all at once!
