The Joffrey Ballet’s 2016-17 season will open with a remount of the company’s thrilling, multimedia production of Romeo & Juliet. Internationally renowned choreographer and Director of the Polish National Ballet Krzysztof Pastor creates a unique telling of the romantic tragedy. This contemporary rendition of the classic Shakespearean tale of star–crossed lovers is set in Italy against a striking multimedia backdrop depicting three different political eras of the twentieth century. Traversing each time period, the eternal tale of love and loss unfolds to Prokofiev’s formidably dramatic score -- played live by the Chicago Philharmonic. Bravura dancing, touching lyricism, and epic storytelling unite in this rendering of ill–fated true love. Pastor’s Romeo & Juliet premiered here in 2014, it is being produced again in conjunction with the citywide Shakespeare 400 Chicago project, celebrating the timeless brilliance of the Bard at the 400th anniversary of his death. Edward Kelsey Moore will be among the musicians of the Chicago Philharmonic for these performances. The Joffrey Ballet Chicago Philharmonic Romeo & Juliet 10 performances only!
