![]() The Chicago Jazz Orchestra celebrates their 40th anniversary season in grand style by presenting a special tribute concert to the inimitable Nancy Wilson, featuring an expanded 40-piece orchestra with guest vocalists Roberta Gambarini, Bobbi Wilsyn and Sarah Marie Young. Wilson, of course, is the renowned American jazz diva with more than 70 albums and three Grammy Awards to her credit. In addition to her 55 year singing career, Nancy Wilson appeared in films and made many television appearances and had her own weekly show on NBC in the late 1960s. More recently, Nancy Wilson was the host for nine seasons of the award winning radio show Jazz Profiles, on NPR. With acclaimed vocalists Gambarani, Wilsyn and Young essaying Wilson’s signature songs, this CJO tribute concert is sure to be a stylish night out celebrating an unforgettable woman in jazz. Edward Kelsey Moore will be performing in the 40-piece orchestra for this concert. A CJO Salute to Nancy Wilson Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:30pm Studebaker Theater ~ Fine Arts Building 410 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605 The Chicago Jazz Orchestra is among the oldest jazz repertory ensembles in the country and its Conductor and Artistic Director Jeff Lindberg is one of the foremost transcribers in jazz. As a result, the Orchestra’s repertoire draws upon a vast library of works by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Benny Carter, Oliver Nelson, Ray Charles, and many more. The Orchestra also performs compositions and arrangements by its own members.
For 40 years, the CJO has been at the forefront of presenting performances of classic American jazz orchestra repertoire to diverse audiences through reasonably priced programs. Always looking for new challenges – both in repertoire and stylistic choices – Mr. Lindberg has infused the Orchestra with a spirit of versatility that has made the group a favorite performer not only in jazz venues, but also for concert settings, receptions, and dances – just about anywhere that exceptional big band music can be enjoyed.
