~ The Supremes Sing the Happy Heartache Blues ~
Forty years after he left town, a down-on-his-luck
blues singer reluctantly returns, even though he'd
sworn never to set foot in Plainview, Indiana, again.
As they listen to this stranger’s bittersweet blues songs,
the "Supremes" (Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean)
have no idea how profoundly his arrival will affect their lives
and those of the people they love.
Meet El Walker the great, guitar bluesman, whose return to Plainview brings him face to face with his hidden past. And the freshly fabulous Audrey Crawford, a young transwoman searching for her true self who makes her move to show biz and Chicago
to escape her Indiana past.
The Supremes Sing the Happy Heartache Blues
is a new novel filled with Edward Kelsey Moore's flawed
and lovable characters, each of them compelling,
compassionate and laugh-out-loud funny.
A triumphant follow-up to the New York Times
bestseller, The Supremes At Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat.

Listen to a short audio introduction by Edward Kelsey Moore of The Supremes Sing the Happy Heartache Blues and hear how a friend's story led to the main theme of this novel. Edward was amazed by his friend’s wild story, and later his capacity for forgiveness. When revisiting the characters from his previous novel, The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat, Edward found he wanted to explore some ideas: What does it mean to forgive—and are some things unforgivable? You’ll also hear how Edward’s experiences as a professional musician led to some of the personality traits of one of the book’s main characters. Edward tells you a few other plot points in this novel, including reexamining some of the long-term relationships between the characters, and ongoing problems with disruptive ghosts who started making appearances in the first book.

“The three 'Supremes' of Plainview, Indiana—a name that emphasizes the unpretentious tone of Moore’s storytelling—are down-home African-American women, except that Clarice is a concert pianist with a penchant for Beethoven, Barbara Jean is Plainview’s wealthiest philanthropist, and Odette—well, Odette talks to the dead. This is comfort food...full of Moore’s sweet but not saccharine affection for his characters.”
— Kirkus Reviews
“Moore returns to Plainview, Ind., to tell further delightful tales of the Supremes. His characters...living and dead, come together to make a wonderful whole.”
