![]() The first Chicago Sinfonietta concerts of the 2019-2020 season explore ideas of natural beauty and loss from many angles to advance the conversation about climate change. On Saturday, October 5th, 2019, in Naperville, Illinois, and again on Monday, October 7th in downtown Chicago, the Sinfonietta will present Forces + Fates: The Beauty And Volatility Of Planet Earth. The opening piece, Mendelssohn’s overture The Hebrides, is inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders, something we risk losing in the all-too-near future. Earth Triptych, receiving its world premiere, shows three different eras of Earth — inviting you to consider where we’re coming from, where we are now, and where we’re going. Clarice Assad’s Nhanderú celebrates the Amazon Basin, a font of biodiversity that is dying away far too rapidly, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Walker's Lyric for Strings mourns what we have lost and may yet lose to climate change. The final work, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, is a warning and a reminder — our fate is in our hands, for now. Edward Kelsey Moore will be among his Sinfonietta colleagues for these concerts. Chicago Sinfonietta Forces + Fates Saturday, October 5, 2019 - 8:00pm Wentz Concert Hall 171 E. Chicago Ave Naperville, IL Monday, October 7, 2019 - 7:30pm Orchestra Hall ~ Symphony Center 220 S Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL

![]() Subscribers to the podcast, Who The Hell Are We? have been receiving the latest (free!) episodes from co-hosts Edward Kelsey Moore and Melanie Benjamin. They’ve enjoyed them! You can, too. Take them anywhere and listen anytime! This has been a busy podcast summer for our authors — in August they recorded and posted three new episodes of Who The Hell Are We? (WTHAW), the audio podcast about identity, books and (usually) cocktails — with more shows on the way! Today co-host Melanie posted a short episode where she describes the origin of her book based on the real-life Alice who inspired those delightful adventures in Wonderland. Learn more about the story behind the story of Melanie Benjamin’s historical novel, Alice I Have Been in today’s BONUS episode! The WTHAW podcast’s most-recent full episode is called I Facebook, Therefore I Am. In that conversation Edward and Melanie discuss some of the choices they’ve made when talking about themselves on social media. They also share some entertaining behind-the-scenes adventures from their author book tours — along with a brief list of books by other authors on living the writing life. Earlier episodes you might have missed: In A Drawer Darkly, and Circus Peanut Race Cars. The former touches on the topic of unpublished manuscripts (with several funny stories) and the latter is about Edward and Melanie’s complicated personal relationships with food, including references to books about food that they’ve enjoyed. It’s very likely there’s a recent WTHAW conversation that you simply must hear!
