The first Chicago Sinfonietta concerts of the 2019-2020 season explore ideas of natural beauty and loss from many angles to advance the conversation about climate change. On Saturday, October 5th, 2019, in Naperville, Illinois, and again on Monday, October 7th in downtown Chicago, the Sinfonietta will present Forces + Fates: The Beauty And Volatility Of Planet Earth. The opening piece, Mendelssohn’s overture The Hebrides, is inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders, something we risk losing in the all-too-near future. Earth Triptych, receiving its world premiere, shows three different eras of Earth — inviting you to consider where we’re coming from, where we are now, and where we’re going. Clarice Assad’s Nhanderú celebrates the Amazon Basin, a font of biodiversity that is dying away far too rapidly, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Walker's Lyric for Strings mourns what we have lost and may yet lose to climate change. The final work, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, is a warning and a reminder — our fate is in our hands, for now. Edward Kelsey Moore will be among his Sinfonietta colleagues for these concerts. Chicago Sinfonietta Forces + Fates Saturday, October 5, 2019 - 8:00pm Wentz Concert Hall 171 E. Chicago Ave Naperville, IL Monday, October 7, 2019 - 7:30pm Orchestra Hall ~ Symphony Center 220 S Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL
